Shopify: PaysafeCard

Paysafecard is a prepaid online payment method based on vouchers with a 16-digit PIN code, independent of a bank account, credit card, or other personal information. Customers can purchase vouchers at local sales outlets and pay online by entering the code at the checkout of the relevant website (for example, an online game). Paysafecard is a well-established payment method for video games, iGaming, and sports entertainment, with 14 million customers across more than 55 countries.

Installing and Configuring the Extension

  1. Log in to your Shopify account (if you are not already logged in) using your username and password.

  2. Once logged in, access the PaysafeCard payments app in the Shopify App Store.

  3. Click Install to begin the app installation process.
    If you manage multiple stores, select the store where you want to add the PaysafeCard app.

  4. After installation, you are redirected to the merchant account configuration screen.

  5. Enter your Merchant ID (PMLE ID) and Private API key (Secret Key). Paysafe provides these credentials after you have successfully signed up and created your private API key in the Paysafe Optic Portal.

    To obtain your credentials from the Paysafe Optic Portal:

    • Log in to the Paysafe Optic Portal.
      You can log in using the Login to Paysafe link in the welcome email you received after activating your account.
    • Go to Developer > API Keys to locate your Merchant ID/ PMLE ID (label 1 in the screenshot below) and Private/ Secret API Key (label 2, below).


      You must authenticate to view the Secret Key.
    • Use the Copy button to ensure the Secret Key is copied properly.

    • Paste the Merchant ID into the MERCHANT ID field and the private API key into the PRIVATE API KEY field.

    If you are using Netbanx instead of the Optic Portal:

    • Go to Settings > API Keys.

    • Locate your Merchant ID (PMLE ID) in the API username.
      It is located after the hyphen (-) in the API username (label 1 in the screenshot below).

    • Use the Copy key button to copy the API key (label 2, below).

    • Paste the Merchant ID into the MERCHANT ID field and the private API key into the PRIVATE API KEY field.

    Note: Each time you create or update an API key, a security token is sent to your email address, which you must enter.

  6. Click Verify Account.

    Note: Ensure that the API key is copied in its entirety. The expected format is username:password, for example:

  7. After your account has been successfully verified, the Currency and Payment Methods sections appear. Select the currency that matches your Shopify store currency.

    Note: If you have multiple accounts (FMAs) for the selected payment method and currency, choose the account that you want to use to process transactions.

  8. Once you have finished configuring your Paysafe account, click Submit. You are redirected to the Shopify Payments settings page.

  9. Click Activate to initiate payment processing with Paysafe.

    Note: Test mode must be disabled to process live payments.

  10. To simulate test orders and payments, enable Test mode and activate the app.

  11. If you want to update the extension settings later, such as the currency or account ID, select More actions > Manage.

Payment Instructions

This section describes the payment experience in both live and test modes, and explains how to test refunds.

Live mode

In live mode, customers are redirected to the external PaysafeCard payment page to complete their payment.

There are two ways to complete the payment:

  • Using a PaysafeCard 16-digit code (PaysafeCard as a voucher).
  • Logging in to a PaysafeCard account and using the available account balance.

We demonstrate both cases below.

Step 1: Checkout

On the Shopify checkout page, the customer selects PaysafeCard as the payment method and proceeds to payment.

Step 2: Select voucher payment

On the PaysafeCard payment page, the customer selects the option to pay using a 16-digit code (voucher).

 

When paying using PaysafeCard as a voucher, the customer simply needs to provide the 16-digit code. If the code is valid, the voucher balance is displayed.

Step 3: Enter 16-digit code

The customer enters the 16-digit code and clicks Pay to complete the payment.

After a successful payment, the customer is redirected back to the Shopify store.

Note: PaysafeCard payments completed using a 16-digit code cannot be refunded through this payment extension.

Step 4: Order confirmation

On the PaysafeCard payment page, the customer selects the option to pay using a PaysafeCard account.

Step 3: Log in

The customer logs in using their email address or username and password. After a successful login, their wallet balance is displayed and they click Pay to complete the payment.

After a successful payment, the customer is redirected back to the Shopify store.

Note: PaysafeCard payments completed using a PaysafeCard account can be refunded through this payment extension.

Step 4: Order confirmation

Test mode

To replicate the live payment experience in test mode, we provide a simple payment page that simulates the available payment outcomes: successful completion, rejection, or cancellation.

The following screenshots demonstrate the test payment flow.

Select PaysafeCard as the payment method and proceed to payment.

On the test payment page, select whether to complete, reject, or cancel the payment.

Testing refunds

To test various refund outcomes, we have adopted a transaction amount-based approach. This may require your products to be priced accordingly in your store to effectively simulate different results.

Note: The currency does not affect the outcome; only the transaction amount.
